Today’s stage four in the Tour of Suisse was the first real day for the general classification contenders with a mountain top finish in Villars-sur-Ollon.
Carlos Verona was the highest finisher for ORICA-SCOTT in 23rd place as riders crossed the line one-by-one after late attacks shattered the peloton.
One rider from the breakaway, Lawrence Warbasse (Aqua Blue), survived to the finish line to take a solo victory with Damiano Caruso (BMC) crossing the line 40seconds behind to move into the overall race lead.
“Today we saw the start of the second part of the Tour of Switzerland with a big mountains stage,” sport director Neil Stephens explained. “Today really started the serious part of the race and the battle for the overall.”
